Oxford students who stripped off to raise money for their summer volunteering project at the Centre for the Working Girl (CENIT) in Ecuador have received a mention in The Times newspaper.
The enterprising students produced a nude calendar, featuring them posing in various locations in their day-to-day life at St Peter’s college.
In true Latin American style, the Mariachi band at the Discovering Latin America’s Rhythm Festival came on stage somewhat later than planned. But within minutes they had made up for their tardiness, and had the entire room dancing along to their infectious music.

Hearts raced and foreheads perspired as the Latin American Rhythms festival kicked off on Sunday morning with a breathless workshop led by samba dancer Romero de Manguiera.
Around thirty participants learnt to shake their hips, lift their chests proudly and dance the evocatively named step ‘mamão com mel’ or ‘papaya with honey’.
The Centre for the Working Girl (CENIT) looks set to receive a
huge boost in funding over the coming weeks thanks to the
success of the Latin American Rythms festival, held in London this
weekend.
The non-profit organisation Discovering Latin America (DLA) put
on the event, with the hope of bringing a taste of Latin American
culture to the capital and raising money for some of the
continent’s poorest children.
Supporters of CENIT were thrilled to hear earlier this year that
DLA had chosen to donate festival profits to the centre in Quito,
after they sent one of their members to visit CENIT.
On June 24-25 2006, London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts will be filled with the sights and sounds of Latin America.
Hosted by UK-based charitable organisation Discovering Latin America (DLA), the 2nd Rhythms of Latin America Festival of Music and Dance will feature live performances, dance workshops and more.
The event promises to be a great day out for people of all ages, and most importantly all proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Centre for the Working Girl (CENIT) in Quito, via Sonrisa.
