Festival raises awareness and money for CENIT

Rhythms festival

The Centre for the Working Girl (CENIT) looks set to receive a
huge boost in funding over the coming weeks thanks to the
success of the Latin American Rythms festival, held in London this
  weekend.

The non-profit organisation Discovering Latin America (DLA) put
on the event, with the hope of bringing a taste of Latin American
culture to the capital and raising money for some of the
  continent’s poorest children.

Supporters of CENIT were thrilled to hear earlier this year that
DLA had chosen to donate festival profits to the centre in Quito,
after they sent one of their members to visit CENIT.

As well as being an excellent fundraising event, supporters of CENIT were also able to use the Rhythms Festival as an opportunity to raise awareness about the plight of working children in Ecuador.

Members of Sonrisa, the charity that co-ordinates fundraising for CENIT in the UK, set up a stall in the Institute of Contemporary Arts. Visitors were able to view information boards about the project and buy leather and textile products made by young people at CENIT.

Sonrisa wishes to thank Discovering Latin America for choosing CENIT as a worthy recipient of festival profits, and hopes that the link will continue.

The charity would also like to express gratitude to the DLA committee for putting on such a great event and taking the time to communicate to visitors the importance of the work being carried out by CENIT in Ecuador.
